Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian welcomed Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei's permission for talks with the US.
Modern.az reports that Pezeshkian stated in a statement that the talks are aimed at achieving benefits for the country. According to the president, he and the Supreme National Security Council are committed to protecting the rights of the Iranian people.
Pezeshkian noted that the Supreme Leader's address to the nation defined the responsibilities of all parties involved in the negotiation process.
“As President and Chairman of the Supreme National Security Council, and together with other members of the council, I consider myself obliged to pay maximum attention to his concerns and to protect the rights of the Iranian people,” Pezeshkian said.
He emphasized that the “red line” for officials is the protection of national interests, as well as the preservation of the dignity, honor, and reputation of the Iranian people.
“Undoubtedly, thanks to the highest attention of the negotiating team and a firm belief in God's mercy, a great victory will be achieved,” he added.
This statement follows a similar statement issued by the secretariat of the Supreme National Security Council on Friday. That statement warned that retaliatory measures would be taken if the US violated any of its commitments.
