US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Stephen Witkoff, told Congress during a closed briefing that Iran would invite the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to inspect its nuclear facilities and begin work to identify Tehran's enriched nuclear materials.
According to Modern.az, two sources familiar with the conversation told the Associated Press.
Witkoff told congressional leaders and members of national security committees that there were no secret or additional agreements in the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
However, he said, a separate letter had been drafted between Tehran and the IAEA, in which Iran officially invited the agency to the country.
According to the sources, Witkoff disclosed the existence of the letter and the invitation during the briefing. He also noted that the letter to IAEA Director Rafael Grossi invited American nuclear inspectors to Tehran.
