A criminal case has been opened in Armenia against Ashot Yeghiazaryan, a parliamentary candidate from the "Strong Armenia" bloc, on charges of pre-election bribery and money laundering on a particularly large scale.
Modern.az reports that the Investigative Committee of Armenia released information about this.
According to the information, facts obtained during the investigation indicate that Ashot Yeghiazaryan, in prior collusion with a group of individuals, gave pre-election bribes ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 drams to more than 100 voters in the Artashat community on the condition that they vote in favor of the "Strong Armenia" bloc during the parliamentary elections held on June 7, 2026.
According to the investigation's version, in some cases, voters also received various sums of money in prior agreement with other individuals.
By the decision of the supervising prosecutor, criminal proceedings were initiated against Ashot Yeghiazaryan under the articles of the Criminal Code of Armenia concerning pre-election bribery and money laundering on a particularly large scale.
By court decision, a measure of restraint in the form of arrest was chosen against him.
The Investigative Committee stated that as a result of previous investigations, more than 100 facts of pre-election bribery and acceptance were revealed.
The institution emphasized that until a legally binding court verdict is issued against the accused, he is considered innocent before the law.
