An behind-the-scenes struggle for the presidential post has begun in Armenia's ruling team. The reason for this is said to be serious health problems of the head of state, Vahagn Khachaturyan.
Modern.az reports that the Armenian newspaper "Hraparak" published this information, citing its sources.
According to the publication, due to health problems, Vahagn Khachaturyan may leave his post before the end of his term.
The newspaper notes that internal forces are already considering possible successor candidates. The following individuals are mentioned as the main contenders for the presidential post:
Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister Arayik Harutyunyan, Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan.
According to the information, Arayik Harutyunyan's candidacy was discussed even during the previous presidential elections, but at that time, members of the ruling team opposed his appointment.
It should be recalled that Vahagn Khachaturyan was elected President of Armenia for a 7-year term in 2022.
