The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) has informed members of Congress that it needs an additional $80 billion in funding for military operations against Iran and other expenses.
Modern.az reports that "The Wall Street Journal" (WSJ) newspaper published this information, citing sources.
According to the information, earlier this week, US Deputy Secretary of Defense Stephen Feinberg held telephone conversations with American lawmakers to inform them about the Pentagon's financial needs.
The newspaper writes that the leadership of the Department of Defense warned Congress that if additional funding is not approved, the Pentagon's funds could run out as early as this summer.
It was stated that if additional funds are not allocated, the US military may be forced to reduce or postpone a number of programs, including military training.
According to the WSJ, the request for additional funding comes amid increasing US military activity in the Middle East and rising defense spending.
