Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenka announced that he recently held a meeting with representatives of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Minsk.
Modern.az reports that Lukashenka spoke about this in a statement to journalists.
According to him, the meeting took place against the background of the Ukrainian side's concern about the equipment deployed on the Belarus-Ukraine border, which, according to Kyiv's claim, is used to coordinate Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Lukashenka stated that he warned Ukrainian representatives that Belarus's involvement in the war could seriously change the situation in the region.
"I told them that if someone thinks it is possible to involve Belarus in this conflict, they should understand that in this case the nature of the war will completely change," he noted.
The Belarusian leader added that the Ukrainian side also expressed its understanding of the possible consequences. He emphasized the importance of negotiations and agreements between the parties.
Lukashenka also stated that Belarus does not intend to become a direct participant in Russia's war against Ukraine.
"There is no need for us to join the war," said the Belarusian President, adding that he has discussed this issue with Vladimir Putin many times.
At the same time, he emphasized that Belarus remains committed to its allied relations with Russia.
"Our position is peaceful. But in any situation, we will be on Russia's side," Lukashenka said. He added that Belarus does not want war, but possible peace agreements must be accompanied by reliable security guarantees.
