As the Western Azerbaijan Community, one of our main goals is to increase international awareness of the realities of Western Azerbaijan, and to strengthen activities in the direction of dialogue with international organizations and foreign states.
Modern.az reports that MP Aziz Alakbarli, chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, said this during his speech at the event titled "Return to Western Azerbaijan: Restoration of Historical Justice and Human Rights" dedicated to International Refugee Day.
According to him, so far, the Community has sent a total of 120 letters to various international organizations and their leaders:
"11 documents of the Community have been distributed among all countries as official documents of the UN Security Council, General Assembly and Economic and Social Council. A total of 345 statements have been issued by the Community regarding biased reports and resolutions distorting the truth of Armenia and international organizations. Community representatives have held a total of 78 meetings with foreign representatives visiting Azerbaijan and influential foreign diplomats working in our country. 6 public hearings on the issue of Western Azerbaijan were held by various committees of the Milli Majlis.
The Asian Parliamentary Assembly, the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement, TurkPA, and the Council of Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation have adopted resolutions on the issue of Western Azerbaijan and supported the right of our Community to return.
Representatives of the Community participated in events held in Turkey, Spain, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Austria, and Jordan.
However, the trilateral meetings held in Washington on August 8 of this year, the initialing of the Peace Agreement to be signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia, the joint Declaration of the Azerbaijani head of state and the Armenian prime minister, finally increased the belief in the arrival of peace in the region."
A. Alakbarli said that the Community welcomes the dialogue efforts of both heads of state and views these talks as a door opened for the return of Western Azerbaijan refugees to their native homes:
"Because the sustainability of any agreement to be concluded depends on the coexistence of these two peoples - Armenians and Azerbaijanis, and the only way to coexistence is through the recognition and guarantee of the right of every person to return to the territories where they were born and raised. Of course, we also understand the concern of the Armenian side, they are afraid that one day they will be held accountable for the crimes they committed against our people for centuries. However, our esteemed President Ilham Aliyev stated in his historic speech at the anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences that the return of our compatriots should not scare Armenians. And all the details of this return are reflected in the Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan, whose author is our esteemed President. We want to and will return to our homes peacefully and with dignity, with all our rights restored, not as guests, but as hosts."
