Armenians should not be afraid of Azerbaijanis returning to their lands.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Aziz Alakbarli, a member of the Milli Majlis and chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community, during his speech at an event dedicated to World Refugee Day titled "Return to Western Azerbaijan: Restoration of Historical Justice and Human Rights."
"The sustainability of any agreement to be concluded depends on the coexistence of these two peoples - Armenians and Azerbaijanis, and the only way to coexistence is through the recognition and guarantee of every person's right to return to the territories where they were born and raised. Of course, we also understand the concern of the Armenian side; they are afraid that one day they will be held accountable for the crimes they have committed against our people for centuries. However, our esteemed President Ilham Aliyev stated in his historic speech at the anniversary of the National Academy of Sciences that the return of our compatriots should not frighten Armenians. And all the details of this return are reflected in the Concept of Return to Western Azerbaijan, the author of which is our esteemed President. We want to and will return to our homes peacefully and with dignity, with all our rights restored, not as guests, but as hosts.
Therefore, we hope and believe that the Armenian leadership will finally find the will to engage in constructive dialogue with our Community, and the ongoing efforts to normalize interstate relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan will also ensure our right to return."
