Reports that Rashad Mammadov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey, has completed his diplomatic mission have intensified discussions about new appointments in the diplomatic corps.

Rashad Mammadov has been holding successive farewell meetings with high-ranking Turkish state officials in recent days. The diplomat shared photos of the meetings on his social media account, stating that his diplomatic activity in Turkey has ended.

According to diplomatic practice, after ambassadors complete their term of service, they are expected to be appointed to another country or continue their activities in the central apparatus. Only by a decision of the President of Azerbaijan can a diplomatic mission be extended in the same country.

In this regard, Rashad Mammadov's next area of activity is of interest.

According to information obtained by Modern.az, Rashad Mammadov, who has served as Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey since 2021, will continue his diplomatic activities in Uzbekistan.

According to the information, one of the main candidates for the ambassadorial post in Turkey is currently Rashad Aslanov, Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Italy. It is reported that certain discussions are being held in diplomatic circles regarding his appointment to Ankara. No official statement has been made on the matter yet.

Rashad Mammadov has worked in the Azerbaijani diplomatic service for many years. He was appointed Azerbaijan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkey in 2021.
