The number of foreign citizens permanently residing in Georgia has increased significantly in the last 10 years. The largest group among them consists of Russian citizens.

Modern.az reports that this was noted in the results of the 2024 population and agricultural census of the National Statistics Office of Georgia ("Sakstat").

According to the information, the number of foreign citizens permanently residing in Georgia is currently 133,857. Approximately one third of them - 37,715 people - are Russian citizens.

According to the census results, the number of Russian citizens living in Georgia has increased by approximately 5 times compared to 2014. Thus, if 7,620 Russian citizens lived in the country in 2014, this indicator increased to 37,715 people in 2024.

In terms of numbers among foreigners, the next places are occupied by citizens of India (23,925 people), Ukraine (11,542 people), Azerbaijan (8,309 people) and Armenia (5,381 people).

According to the main results of the census, the total population of Georgia was 3,929,581 people, which means an increase of 5.8 percent compared to 2014.

3,775,415 people of the country's population are citizens of Georgia. The number of ethnic Georgians was recorded as 3,304,075 people.

At the same time, an increase was observed in the number of some ethnic groups. The number of ethnic Azerbaijanis reached 268,832 people, an increase of 15.4 percent. The number of ethnic Armenians was 169,296 people, and the number of Russians was 42,545 people, which is 60.8 percent more than the previous census. The number of Indians was 23,996, and the number of Ukrainians was 14,443.

According to "Sakstat", the share of Georgian citizens in the country's population has decreased from 99.2 percent to 96.1 percent in the last 10 years.
