Armenia systematically destroyed our cemeteries, cultural and religious monuments, and eliminated almost all Azerbaijani-Muslim traces.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by MP, chairman of the Western Azerbaijan Community Aziz Alakbarli during his speech at the event titled "Return to Western Azerbaijan: Restoration of Historical Justice and Human Rights" dedicated to International Refugee Day.
He noted that ethnic cleansing also had a serious negative impact on our intangible cultural heritage, and our customs, traditions, lifestyle and social ties were significantly damaged:
"Let me just remind you of such a fact that during our recent monitoring of 201 Azerbaijani cemeteries in Armenia, together with my scientist colleague Sabuhi Huseynov in the Western Azerbaijan Community, we determined that asphalt roads were built over 12 of these cemeteries, residential houses were built over 16 cemeteries, the territory of 56 cemeteries was turned into agricultural land, 6 cemeteries were re-buried and turned into Armenian cemeteries, acts of vandalism were committed over 67 cemeteries, industrial and production facilities were built over 4 cemeteries, military fortification works were carried out in the territory of 5 cemeteries, construction works were carried out in the territory of 32 cemeteries, and a water reservoir was built in the territory of 3 cemeteries.
It is interesting, how will Armenia justify this savagery and similar savagery after we return to our historical lands?! Perhaps that is why our right to return frightens and terrifies them so much?!"
