European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that the European Union has agreed on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia.

Modern.az reports that Ursula von der Leyen shared this on her "X" account.

"I welcome the agreement reached on the 21st package of sanctions against Russia," she said.

According to von der Leyen, at a time when Ukraine is making military progress, EU sanctions continue to weaken the economic foundations of Russia's war efforts.

Within the framework of the new sanctions package, 32 more Russian banks will be included in the list of operational bans. Restrictions will also be imposed on cryptocurrency companies and oil trading platforms.

In addition, for the first time, ships assisting Russia's "shadow fleet" will be targeted. At the same time, a significant step has been taken towards officially prohibiting Russian fighters from entering the European Union.

The President of the European Commission added that in order to prevent Russia's war machine from benefiting from market price changes, it was decided to freeze the oil price cap regulation for a period of one year.

Von der Leyen thanked Ireland, which holds the presidency of the Council of the European Union, for its contribution to reaching the agreement.
