The European Union is working on visa liberalization with Turkey.
Modern.az reports that Turkish media has released information about this.
It was stated that within the framework of the process that started on December 16, 2013, 72 criteria were determined that Turkey had to fulfill. So far, 66 criteria have been completed, and 6 criteria have remained pending for a long time.
On August 8, 2026, Turkish Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz announced that work on the remaining 6 criteria had begun.

It was stated that after the discussions and the process are completed, Turkish citizens will be able to travel to the Schengen area without a visa.
