The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted harshly to Armenia's statement about its readiness to accept Russian citizens who want to avoid being sent to war.
Modern.az reports that the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, called the ideas of the Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, provocative.
In an interview with “Dojd” TV channel on August 25, Alen Simonyan stated that citizens who want to avoid possible new mobilization in Russia will not be prevented from entering Armenia. According to him, these people will not be asked about the reasons for coming to the country at the border, and if necessary, the Armenian authorities will provide them with assistance.
Zakharova, on the other hand, emphasized that information about possible mobilization in Russia has been repeatedly denied by Moscow.
“We consider Simonyan's statements to be provocative. These ideas encourage Russian citizens to illegal actions and give a poisonous political color to traditional Armenian hospitality,” the diplomat said.
Zakharova called Simonyan's words “another indicator of the Armenian authorities' attempt to curry favor with the West and the Kyiv regime.” She claimed that such statements harm Russian-Armenian cooperation.
It should be noted that Alen Simonyan was appointed Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia on August 13. Before that, he was the Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia for five years.
