The Anak-Krakatau volcano has erupted in Indonesia.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that the ash column rose to approximately 50 thousand feet (15 kilometers) into the atmosphere. Ash clouds spread in the northeast and northwest directions under the influence of the wind, covering the capital Jakarta, as well as the provinces of Banten, West Java and Lampung.
Officials have declared a 3rd level of danger for the volcano.
In connection with the incident, 7 airports in the country have suspended their operations. Among them is the main international air hub in Jakarta - Soekarno-Hatta airport. Currently, more than 1,500 flights have been canceled, delayed or redirected. It is reported that approximately 170,000 passengers remained in the airport terminals.
