It is stated that Burnham's short-term assumption of the prime minister's post depends on the presence or absence of rivals in the upcoming election process. The outgoing Prime Minister K. Starmer has already announced that applications from candidates will begin on July 9. This process must be completed before the parliament's expected summer recess on July 16.
Members of the Labour Party's National Executive Committee also confirmed this scenario in their statements to the publication. According to the information, if no rival candidate emerges against Andy Burnham, he could officially start leading the government as early as July 17. Otherwise, the election procedure will be extended until the beginning of the next week, before the break in the parliament's activities.
