The US House of Representatives has blocked another initiative to impeach President Donald Trump.
Modern.az reports that, according to "The Washington Post", 232 congressmen voted to stop the discussion of the impeachment resolution submitted by Democratic congressman Al Green, while 147 opposed it.
During the vote, there was a serious disagreement among Democrats. Thus, 18 Democrats supported stopping the discussion of the resolution, while 46 Democrats stated that they only participated in the vote and practically did not support either side.
The resolution submitted by Al Green was his eighth attempt to initiate Trump's impeachment, and the fourth initiative since the president returned to the White House.
The document accuses Trump of "high crimes and misdemeanors" related to the activities of federal immigration agencies. The congressman blames immigration agencies for violating civil liberties and the right to due legal process.
During the vote, 214 Republicans supported stopping the discussion of the resolution. Only Republican congressman Thomas Massie chose the "present" option.
Among Democrats, 147 voted against stopping the discussion of the resolution, 46 chose the "present" option, and 18 supported sending the resolution to the archive.
The leadership of the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives appealed to party members before the vote not to advance Green's initiative.
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic leadership representative Katherine Clark, and Democratic Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar stated that a full-fledged investigation and hearings must be held to initiate impeachment proceedings. According to them, no such process was conducted regarding Green's initiative.
It should be noted that Democrats impeached Trump twice during his first presidency. However, the US Senate did not find him guilty in either case.
The attitude of the Democratic Party leadership towards Green's resolution ahead of the midterm elections to Congress indicates that they do not support initiating a new impeachment procedure against Trump without a preliminary investigation.
Green's resolution is mainly dedicated to the activities of federal immigration agencies, including the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The document claims that the Trump administration allowed these agencies to operate without proper oversight. It also states that the right to due legal process and other civil rights were violated.
