Russian Major General Anton Grunis has been killed in Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Apti Alaudinov, Deputy Head of the Main Military-Political Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces and commander of the “Akhmat” special forces.
According to him, Grunis was the commander of the 4th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade of the Russian army.
The servicemen of the brigade led by the general participated in the capture of the Ukrainian city of Konstantinovka. The Russian side announced that control over the city was established on July 3. Grunis later reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the capture of Konstantinovka.
In August, Anton Grunis was awarded the title “Hero of Russia”, one of Russia's highest honorary titles. He was awarded this title for “courage and heroism” shown during military service.
Grunis was given the military rank of Major General in May 2024. According to Russian media, Vladimir Putin was referring to Grunis when he spoke about an unnamed brigade commander in one of his earlier speeches. Putin had stated that the person was born in Kazan and “fought excellently”. The statement did not provide information about the cause of the general's death.
