The US has refused to grant a visa to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to attend next week's UN General Assembly meeting in New York.
Modern.az reports, citing AFP, that this is the second time Abbas has been denied a US visa as part of the sanctions imposed by the Donald Trump administration against members and leaders of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).
The US State Department has accused the Palestinian Authority and other entities of “failing to reform.” The Department announced that sanctions would be imposed against members and leaders of the PLO, led by Abbas, and that visa restrictions would also be extended.
Last year, the US administration also denied visas to Abbas and the Palestinian delegation to attend the UN General Assembly meeting. Therefore, a pre-recorded video message from Abbas was shown at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly.
