US President Donald Trump said in his speech at the UN General Assembly that if a peace agreement is not reached with Iran, he “could destroy” the Islamic Republic.

During his speech, Trump said he had to make an important decision regarding Iran.
“I have to make an important decision. Will an agreement be reached with Iran that will allow them to rebuild the country and create a stronger state than before? Or should I destroy the Islamic Republic and do it quickly so that they can no longer kill people and destroy countries?” – said the US President.
Within the framework of the UN General Assembly meeting in New York, Trump also met with the leaders of Middle Eastern countries interested in restoring shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
The US President also spoke about the possibility of an agreement with Iran. According to him, Washington's negotiations with Tehran are ongoing and an agreement can be reached.
“I think we will reach an agreement with Iran immediately after the elections. Because there is no reason for them not to do it. They are waiting to see how my affairs will go in the midterm elections. I don't know. You never know what will happen,” – Trump said at a meeting with the leaders of Middle Eastern countries.
It should be noted that Trump's words came at a time when diplomatic contacts between the US and Iran are continuing. US special envoy Steve Witkoff previously stated that long-term negotiations were held with the Iranian side with the participation of mediators, and the discussions were “constructive and promising.”
