US President Donald Trump, accompanied by his wife Melania Trump, personally welcomed his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping during his visit to Washington.
Modern.az reports that the Chinese leader's plane landed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, USA.
US television channels broadcast footage of Xi Jinping disembarking from the plane and Donald Trump greeting him at the bottom of the ramp. Trump also had a brief conversation with his Chinese counterpart.
Earlier, US media noted that American presidents very rarely personally greet foreign heads of state at the airport.
It is reported that Trump's personal welcome of Xi Jinping is linked to the intention to show maximum respect to the Chinese leader.
Talks between the two leaders are expected to begin in Washington on Thursday morning local time.
Xi Jinping's visit to the US will conclude on Friday.
