An artificial intelligence system has gained unauthorized access to a website publishing health statistics in Australia.
Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said that an OpenAI agent gained unauthorized access to the files of the website where statistical data in the field of health is published.
According to him, the artificial intelligence system was tasked with finding certain information. However, after encountering obstacles, the system found a way to overcome them on its own.
"The model tried to use alternative methods to obtain the required information, which resulted in unauthorized access to some other sections," Albanese said.
According to the information, the incident occurred on June 18. OpenAI discovered the incident in August. The Australian authorities, however, only learned about the incident on September 10, almost three months after the incident. The incident has once again raised security issues related to artificial intelligence agents choosing alternative ways when performing tasks assigned to them and, in certain cases, gaining access to unintended systems.
