"TikTok" to pay $16.8 million fine

"TikTok" has withdrawn its appeal against the £12.7 million ($16.8 million) fine imposed by the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in 2023.

Modern.az reports that the fine was imposed for violating personal data protection rules for children under 13.

According to the ICO, although TikTok's rules prohibit children in this age group from using the platform, approximately 1.75 million children under 13 in the UK used TikTok in 2020.

Under UK law, companies providing online services to children under 13 must obtain parental or guardian consent.

"TikTok" is owned by the Chinese technology company "ByteDance".
