The Norwegian Nobel Committee has allowed US President Donald Trump to keep the Nobel Peace Prize medal of Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado.
Modern.az reports that the committee announced this on the X platform.
The statement reads: "The medal may pass from hand to hand, but the name of the Nobel Peace Prize laureate does not change".
On January 6, Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado stated that she was ready to give her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize to the US President. She stated that upon receiving the award, she dedicated it to the American leader, believing he deserved it. The opposition leader noted that on January 3, Trump achieved something many considered impossible – removing Maduro from the Venezuelan presidency.
On January 15, Trump met with Machado at the White House. During the talks, the opposition leader presented the Nobel Peace Prize medal to the US President. According to “Fox News”, the American leader accepted it.
