It is a lung disease caused by Legionella bacteria. Infection occurs through inhalation of aerosols containing this bacteria. According to the health department, the disease was recorded in one area. Preliminary data indicate that cooling towers were the source of the infection.
Experts analyzed 10 cooling towers located near the outbreak site. Eight of them exceeded the permitted level of Legionella. Two such towers are located on the roof of an office building in Basel. They were shut down after test results were received.
