The remains of a German warship have emerged in Serbia as a result of the receding waters of the Danube River.

Modern.az reports that the ship, dating back to World War II, appeared near the village of Prahovo.

It is believed that the ship was scuttled by German troops themselves during their retreat in 1944.

According to information, it is one of the ships belonging to Nazi Germany's Black Sea fleet. At that time, German forces deliberately sank the ships in the Danube to prevent them from falling into the hands of the Soviet Army.

According to experts' calculations, approximately 200 sunken ships still remain at the bottom of the river near Prahovo. It is assumed that some of them contain ammunition, which complicates both recovery efforts and navigation. A project to remove some of these remains is being implemented with the support of the European Union.
