Belarus is creating a new airborne assault brigade on the border with Ukraine.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Aleksandr Ilyukevich, commander of the Special Operations Forces of the Belarusian Armed Forces, in an interview with “VoenTV” television channel.
According to him, one battalion has already been formed as part of the new brigade.
In 2026, another battalion, as well as combat support, artillery, anti-aircraft missile and reconnaissance units, are planned to be created.
According to information, the new brigade will be deployed near the city of Gomel, approximately 40 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
In July, Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin denied reports about the construction of fortifications on the border with Ukraine.
He called these claims part of an information war aimed at creating tension in Belarusian and Ukrainian societies.
Khrenin had previously stated that Belarusian servicemen do not observe any signs of attack preparations on the border from the Ukrainian side.
