The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has issued a statement amid accusations that its president ensured compensation was paid to his former girlfriend during his time as general secretary of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).
According to Modern.az, the statement emphasizes that FIFA President Gianni Infantino completely rejects these claims.
"Any speculation regarding a violation of statutes or rules is defamatory. No employee of UEFA or FIFA has lodged a complaint regarding Infantino's actions. All personnel decisions, including dismissals and the payment of severance packages, have been approved by the competent authorities in strict compliance with existing regulations," the statement said.
Earlier, media reported that Infantino had promoted his girlfriend during his time at UEFA and ensured she received severance pay.
Infantino worked at UEFA from August 2000. He served as general secretary from 2009 to 2016. In February 2016, he was elected president of the International Federation of Association Football.
