German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said that his country has a special historical responsibility towards Israel, and for this reason, Berlin will not support the imposition of general sanctions against Israel.
Modern.az reports that Mertz emphasized in his statement that Germany's position will remain unchanged.
"Germany has a special responsibility towards Israel. We cannot and will not support the imposition of a general sanctions regime against Israel. This position will not change in the near future," the chancellor said.
