Armenian Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan gave an ironic response to the statements made about Russia-Armenia relations. He stated that Yerevan's relations with Moscow are not at the level of "divorce" and Armenia has no intention of "demanding alimony" from Russia.
Modern.az reports that Simonyan assessed the tension in Armenia's relations with Russia as a political process.
"We have no goal of 'divorcing' the Russian Federation, nor are we dividing the children," the parliament speaker said.
He also commented on the statements of some Russian officials who link Armenia's existence to Russia's role.
"If they don't need us, why do they interfere so much? Everywhere they say that more Armenians live in Russia than in Armenia, as if without Russia, Armenia would not be a state at all," Simonyan noted.
According to him, disagreements between Moscow and Yerevan are a normal part of politics.
"There is no need to make a storm in a teacup. This is politics: they will state their position, and we will state ours. Then we will sit down and discuss, they will make one proposal, we will make another. This is politics, not a matter of marriage and guardianship. We have no goal of demanding alimony or dividing the children," Simonyan emphasized.
