US intelligence agencies are concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu may take steps aimed at breaking a possible final agreement between Washington and Tehran.
Modern.az reports that the "Washington Post" newspaper published this information, citing US officials.
According to the information, the US administration has been warned that the Netanyahu government could hinder President Donald Trump's efforts to reach a long-term agreement with Iran. Intelligence assessments state that the Israeli leadership intends to continue operations against "Hezbollah" in Lebanon. However, the cessation of military activity in Lebanon is considered one of the main conditions of the US-Iran agreement.
According to the publication, the Israeli authorities are dissatisfied with the terms of the memorandum discussed between Washington and Tehran and do not consider it strict enough against Iran. US officials believe that Israel's refusal to withdraw its troops from southern Lebanon could jeopardize such a possible agreement.
Earlier, CNN reported that the Netanyahu government planned to use the support of pro-Israeli media and politicians to influence the terms of a future US-Iran agreement.
Netanyahu stated on June 19 that the Israeli army would maintain its positions in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary. US President Donald Trump, on the other hand, emphasized the importance of a ceasefire in the region, including Lebanon.
