The liberation of Karabakh has created a new stage in the Caucasus.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Numan Kurtulmuş, at the opening ceremony of the 20th session of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) Conference hosted by the Milli Majlis.
Numan Kurtulmuş stated that one of the main problems faced by the Islamic world in this period is fragmentation, disunity, and the weakness of common political will. According to him, Islamic countries should strengthen unity, solidarity, and cooperation, and value sectarian, ethnic, political, and ideological differences not as a cause for confrontation, but as a common richness.
The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly noted that the world is currently going through a complex stage of serious geopolitical tensions, conflicts, economic upheavals, and the formation of a new international order. He stated that in the multipolar new world order, the Islamic world has the opportunity to become one of the important power centers with its large human resources, economic potential, natural resources, and young population.
In his speech, Numan Kurtulmuş also touched upon the processes in the Middle East, stating that adherence to agreements should be maintained in the negotiations regarding Iran, an increase in tension in the region should not be allowed, and diplomatic efforts for the establishment of peace should continue.
He also drew attention to the situation in Lebanon and Palestine, emphasizing the importance of stopping conflicts in the region, ensuring the safety of civilians, and restoring stability.
The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly devoted a special place to the situation in the South Caucasus in his speech. He stated that the Karabakh lands of Azerbaijan remained under occupation for more than 30 years, but as a result of Azerbaijan's victory, these territories were liberated, and a new stage began in the region.
Numan Kurtulmuş noted that after the liberation of Karabakh, new opportunities for peace and cooperation have emerged in the Caucasus. He stated that they positively evaluate the ongoing peace talks between Azerbaijan and Armenia and support this process.
“We hope that the negotiations between Azerbaijan and Armenia will result in a final peace agreement and the South Caucasus will become a space of long-term stability, security, and cooperation,” emphasized the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament.
