The economic damage and losses caused by forest fires in Europe this year are estimated to exceed 19 billion euros.
Modern.az reports that according to calculations made by "AccuWeather", a global weather forecasting service located in the United States of America, more than 530,000 hectares of forest have been destroyed as a result of fires in various regions of Europe this year. Spain and France are among the countries most affected by forest fires in Europe.
According to preliminary estimates, the fires caused economic damage and losses totaling between 15.6 and 19.1 billion euros.
Economic losses include direct and indirect effects of forest fires, emergency response costs, short-term and long-term health consequences, as well as disruptions in daily life and economic activities.
According to "AccuWeather"'s forecast, extremely hot weather and drought will keep the risk of forest fires in Europe at a high level until the autumn season. The danger of forest fires in most of Western and Central Europe is assessed as "extremely high". Some regions of France, northern Spain and the south of the British Isles are considered to be the areas at highest risk. In addition, the risk of forest fires remains high in southern Scandinavia, parts of Italy and Eastern Europe, and the Balkans.
It should be noted that 1.08 million hectares of forest were destroyed as a result of fires in Europe in 2025.
