The French parliament has approved an agreement that officially defines the land border with the Netherlands on the Caribbean island of Saint Martin (Sint Maarten) for the first time.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that although the island was divided between the two states as early as 1648, the border line existed only de facto for approximately four centuries and was not fully legally defined.
The agreement, signed in May 2023, defines the exact land borders between the French overseas territory and the autonomous part of the Netherlands. The document will enter into force after it is ratified by the Dutch parliament.
