15 countries have come together to create a multinational maritime defense coalition that will operate in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Modern.az reports that the Ministry of Defense of Saudi Arabia released information about this.
According to the information, 15 countries have signed a statement on the creation of the coalition, and 13 of them have already officially joined the initiative. The scope of activity of the new coalition will include the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden.
It is planned that the command of the coalition will be carried out by a representative of Saudi Arabia, and the position of his deputy will be entrusted to a representative of Pakistan.
Among the main goals of the new initiative are strengthening maritime security in the region, ensuring stability in strategic waterways, and organizing joint actions against possible threats.
The creation of the coalition coincides with a period of ongoing military-political tension in the Middle East. It is noteworthy that the initiative emerged against the background of regional security issues related to Iran. It is noted that the main members of the coalition will be Arab countries.
