Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statements today regarding Azerbaijan have attracted attention. Pashinyan expressed confidence that product exports from his country to Azerbaijan will also be carried out in the near future.
However, he did not specify which products would be exported. The question of which products Armenia will export to Azerbaijan is a matter of interest.
In a statement to Modern.az, Azer Badamov, a member of the Economic Policy, Industry and Entrepreneurship Committee of the Milli Majlis, stated that after the significant progress achieved in the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on August 8, 2025, a new stage has begun in ending the long-standing conflict between the two countries and resolving problems through direct dialogue:
"Already since the end of last year, Azerbaijan has started to open its territory for Armenia's transit shipments. At the same time, Azerbaijan also exports oil products to Armenia. When Azerbaijan's first oil products entered the Armenian market, there were, of course, certain doubts and hesitations. However, over time, the competitiveness of Azerbaijani gasoline and diesel showed itself, and demand for these products arose. I believe that in the future, the range of products exported by Azerbaijan to Armenia can be further expanded. For example, it is possible that demand for Azerbaijan's chemical industry products will arise in Armenia. As market needs and opportunities are studied, the export of other products favorable for mutual trade can also be carried out. In addition, our head of state, in an interview with AzTV in Nakhchivan, stated that the export of electricity from Azerbaijan to Armenia is also possible."
The deputy noted that, naturally, as trade and economic relations develop, it is possible that products imported from Armenia to Azerbaijan will also emerge:
"Today, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan also did not rule out the possibility of mutual export of electricity between Azerbaijan and Armenia. This indicates that economic cooperation between the two countries could also cover the energy sector in the future. Naturally, as trade and economic relations develop, it is possible that products imported from Armenia to Azerbaijan will also emerge. I believe that, first of all, mining industry, minerals, various types of raw materials and related products can constitute potential in this direction. Armenia exporting various products to Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan to Armenia can completely turn into a normal economic relationship in the future. However, for this, first of all, it is important to sign a final peace agreement between the two countries and strengthen the legal and political foundations of relations. After the peace agreement, new opportunities will arise for establishing diplomatic relations and developing mutual economic ties more broadly. It is possible that over time we will encounter Armenian-made products in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijani brands in Armenia. Because after normal relations are formed between neighboring states, the directions of cooperation also expand. Trade and economic ties not only create economic dividends, but also serve to strengthen mutual trust and relations between peoples."
According to the deputy, the expansion of trade and economic ties between the two countries can also have a positive impact on the gradual elimination of long-standing enmity and confrontation:
"Most importantly, there will be a change in people's attitudes towards each other, mutual contacts will increase, and in the future, more favorable conditions may be formed for Azerbaijanis to return to their ancestral lands safely and freely. But all this does not mean that we should forget our history. On the contrary, the tragedies faced by the Azerbaijani people, the events that occurred during the conflict, and historical truths must be conveyed to future generations. Historical memory must be preserved so that the tragedies that occurred in the past do not repeat themselves in the future. At the same time, we must be able to look to the future without forgetting history. Because despite all the difficulties and painful history, we are neighbors and we must find ways of coexistence and mutual cooperation in the future. Today, Azerbaijani and Armenian societies are gradually adapting to the practical peace conditions that have emerged between the two countries, and are beginning to get used to each other. The continuation of this process, the expansion of mutual trade and economic ties can make a significant contribution to making peace more stable and sustainable."
Economist Natiq Jafarli noted that agricultural products, fish, fruits and iron ore can be imported from Armenia to Azerbaijan:
"When we look at Armenia's export potential, agricultural products, fish, fruits and iron ore play a leading role here. That is, these products can be exported from Armenia to Azerbaijan."
According to N. Jafarli, there can even be energy exchange between the two countries:
"We can sell gas to Armenia and buy electricity from it for the supply of our liberated territories. It's just a long process. It is difficult for this process to happen in a short time. Because there are also technical problems. That's because, first of all, banks need to recognize each other. That is, infrastructure for bank transfers must be established."
