Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the European Union's (EU) declaration of some ships as a "shadow fleet" to restrict Russia's revenues is a dangerous path.

Modern.az reports that Lavrov said the EU called ships that do not comply with Brussels' restrictions a "shadow fleet," regardless of the flag under which they sail.

According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the European Union has decided to apply its legal norms to limit Russia's ability to generate income in world markets.

"This is a very dangerous path," Lavrov emphasized.

The minister also stated that Moscow will decide which ships to target in response to the West's seizure of Russian ships.

"We will choose the targets ourselves. The targets will be ships serving the interests of countries whose official policy is banditry and piracy," Lavrov said.

He added that Russia will also decide how to deal with those ships.

It should be noted that a similar warning from Russia against the West was previously voiced by President Vladimir Putin. He said that some countries think it is possible to seize Russian ships and sell their cargo.

Putin called this "piracy and banditry" and said that Russia would respond. According to him, retaliatory measures may not necessarily be carried out in the waters where the West plans attacks. A relevant instruction has already been given in this direction and communicated to the naval commands.
