Japan's statements regarding the Kuril Islands are legally insignificant.
Modern.az reports that Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said these words.
According to her, Russia's sovereignty and jurisdiction over the Kuril Islands are not subject to dispute.
Zakharova said that Tokyo's statements regarding the Russian President's visit to the Kuril Islands cause "extremely sharp dissatisfaction" in Moscow.
It should be noted that Japan claims the islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan, and Habomai, calling them "Northern Territories." Russia, based on the results of World War II, states that its sovereignty over the Southern Kuril Islands is not subject to dispute.
