It is illogical to hold a referendum on this issue until Armenia officially applies for membership in the European Union or approaches candidate status.

Modern.az reports that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke about this in a video message he shared on his “Facebook” page.

"Currently, the issue of EU membership is theoretical, and it is not appropriate to put theoretical options to a referendum. The Armenian government will calmly and consistently continue its activities in the Eurasian Economic Union, because there are still unused opportunities on this platform," he noted.

In his speech, the Prime Minister also touched upon the model of a balanced foreign policy:

"A state can exist in the system of international relations only within the framework of mutual relations with other countries. Planets and celestial bodies exist based on certain gravitational relations. When these relations are broken and balance is lost, catastrophes occur. A balanced foreign policy does not mean sharp turns, and the establishment of a new balance, the restoration of the previous one, must be carried out gradually."

Pashinyan also specifically touched upon relations with Russia, noting that relations with Moscow are in a stage of transformation:

“I evaluate this transformation stage positively. We are building new relations with Russia in new conditions, and I believe that we will succeed in this process. Because our relations are open and sincere."

Speaking about economic policy, Pashinyan characterized "independence as replacing dependence on a small number of partners with a large number of partners":

"Increasing the number of partners minimizes risks and expands the state's maneuvering capabilities. As a result of this approach, Armenia has established relations with countries with which it previously had no diplomatic relations after 2022. This includes Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in particular."

The Prime Minister added that serious work is currently underway to normalize relations with Turkey and Azerbaijan. According to Pashinyan, eliminating the existing imbalance in this direction is not a choice for Armenia, but a necessity in terms of the state's activities.
