The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has announced that an agreement has been reached between Ukraine and Russia on a temporary local ceasefire.

Modern.az reports that this information was provided in a post on the IAEA's "X" social media account.

It is reported that this is the sixth ceasefire reached since the end of last year. This step will allow necessary repair work to be carried out on the power supply line of Ukraine's Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP).

The Agency's statement reads:

"Today, a local ceasefire mediated by the IAEA has come into effect on the front line near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. This step creates conditions for the repair of the power line, which is crucial to prevent the risk of a nuclear accident."

According to the information, in the coming days, technicians from both sides will begin repairing the 750-kilovolt "Dniprovska" power line, damaged as a result of the war, after extensive demining of the area.

The post noted that the said power line has been disconnected from the grid for more than two months. As a result, Europe's largest nuclear power plant has been forced to secure the electricity required for cooling its six shut-down reactors through only one 330 kV line.

According to the IAEA, the ZNPP has also lost access to this line several times in recent weeks, which forced the plant to activate emergency diesel generators.
