Iran has stated that its strikes on US forces in Qatar targeted military facilities.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baqai.
Baqai, citing an official document submitted by the Qatari government to the International Telecommunication Union, said:
“Iran’s defensive strikes against US forces stationed in Qatar were directed at American military facilities. No civilian object was targeted.”
According to the Iranian official, the only exception noted by Qatar was the attack on a gas facility on March 18. Baqai claimed that the facilities hit that day were used to support US military operations against Iran.
The Foreign Ministry spokesman accused the US of striking schools, hospitals, residential areas, bridges, and other civilian objects for many years.
“There is a big difference between a people who understand the importance of adhering to moral and humanitarian principles even in the most difficult circumstances, and warmongers who do not recognize the rule of law and ethical norms for the sake of demonstrating power,” Baqai said.
It should be noted that Qatar strongly condemned Iran’s attack on the gas facility in the industrial city of Ras Laffan on March 18. According to the Qatari side, the attack caused 17 percent of the country’s liquefied natural gas export capacity to be put out of action.
