The US national debt will reach the limit of $41.1 trillion set between late winter and mid-summer of 2027.
Modern.az reports that this forecast is included in a report published by the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington.
The document notes that in July 2025, the US national debt limit was increased by $5 trillion, from $36.1 trillion to $41.1 trillion.
“Since then, the amount of debt included in the restrictions has increased by $2.9 trillion, which means that more than half of the increased borrowing limit has already been used,” the report emphasizes.
According to the Center's assessment, if Congress does not take additional steps, the US will reach its debt limit again in 2027.
The report states that after this, the Washington administration will be able to use emergency financial measures for approximately 6-9 months to prevent default. After that, the US may face difficulties in fulfilling its financial obligations in full and on time.
According to experts, one of the main factors affecting the time to reach the debt limit is the costs incurred for military operations against Iran. According to the latest Pentagon estimate, these costs have already reached $29 billion.
In addition, revenues from customs duties imposed by Washington and possible government expenditures for compensation of this policy may also affect the process.
Currently, the US national debt is approximately $39.2 trillion. This indicator exceeded $39 trillion for the first time in history in March, and $38 trillion in October 2025.
