The elections in Armenia took place under unprecedented pressure against the opposition and Western interference.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.
According to her, the Armenian Apostolic Church, which traditionally has great influence in the country, was not left out of the persecutions.
"All this is a gross violation of democratic principles and procedures for holding free elections by Yerevan," Zakharova noted.
The representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that the persecutions are directed only against political forces that advocate strengthening Armenia's alliance with Russia, continuing the country's participation in Eurasian integration, and rejecting the "desperate course towards the European Union."
