A police station has started operating in the house where Adolf Hitler was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria.
Modern.az reports that "Reuters" agency disseminated information about this.
It was stated that the Austrian authorities handed over the building to the police in order to prevent it from becoming a place of visit for neo-Nazis.
According to the information, the state compulsorily bought the house from its previous owner in 2017 after long disputes. A charity organization that provided assistance to disabled people previously operated in the building. In 2019, it was decided to reconstruct it and turn it into a police station.
In front of the building, a memorial stone brought from the Mauthausen concentration camp with the words "Fascism - never again" written on it was preserved. Hitler's name was not mentioned on the monument.
Stefan Mlychox, head of the history department of the Austrian Ministry of Internal Affairs, stated that the goal is to eliminate the symbolic meaning of the building related to Hitler and to destroy the mystical approach formed around it.
It should be noted that although Adolf Hitler was born in that house in 1889, he lived there for only a few weeks. During the Nazi regime, an art museum operated in the building, and the building was known as "the Führer's birthplace."
