Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held a meeting within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Foreign Ministers' Council meeting in Kyrgyzstan.
Modern.az reports that the meeting discussed the development of cooperation between the two countries in political, economic, trade, transport and energy fields, as well as coordination issues in international organizations and multilateral regional platforms.
The parties agreed to take necessary steps to accelerate the implementation of agreements reached within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.
During the meeting, the latest situation in West Asia was also in the spotlight. The ministers discussed Iran's claims that the US again violated the Islamabad agreement and did not fulfill its obligations, as well as the security situation in the region.
Abbas Araqchi thanked Russia for its position condemning the military attacks of the US and Israel against Iran. He stated that the tension in the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of the US violating its commitments to Iran and the policies it pursues.
Araqchi emphasized that although Tehran showed good will in the negotiations to stop the war, it is determined to protect its national interests and security. He added that Iran will not allow the US to use the Strait of Hormuz to threaten the country's national security.
Sergey Lavrov reaffirmed Russia's position condemning the military operations of the US and Israel against Iran. He emphasized the importance of forming a security mechanism with the participation of regional countries, stating that Moscow is ready to provide all kinds of support to this process.
