Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar has brought up the issue of the alleged "Armenian genocide."

Modern.az reports that, according to "Sputnik Armenia," Gideon Saar will submit a resolution officially recognizing the "Armenian genocide" during the Ottoman Empire to the Israeli government and then to the parliament.

"At the next meeting of the Israeli government, I will submit a draft resolution on the official recognition of the Armenian genocide by the Israeli government," Saar wrote on the social network X.

The minister noted that after this, the document will be submitted to the Israeli parliament - the Knesset. According to him, "the recognition of the events is a moral and historical duty, Israel must condemn the denial, minimization, or distortion of historical truth."

According to the information, although Israel has avoided official recognition on this issue for many years, in recent years it has taken certain steps in this direction against the background of deteriorating relations with Turkey.

As is known, Armenian sources claim that more than 1.5 million Armenians died in the Ottoman Empire during the events of 1915. Turkish historians reject this claim and the term "genocide."

It should be noted that Uruguay was the first country to recognize the alleged "Armenian genocide" in 1965. In subsequent years, France, Russia, Germany, Canada, the USA, and a number of other states also adopted similar decisions.
