It is alleged that political and military reasons are behind the dismissal of Ukraine's former Minister of Defense, Mykhailo Fedorov.
Modern.az reports that The New York Times published this information, citing opposition representatives and political experts.
According to the publication, Fedorov's growing popularity and increasing influence within the country's leadership turned him into a "problem and threat" for President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The article notes that before the former minister's resignation, a serious disagreement arose with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi.
It is reported that Fedorov, citing the increasing role of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in modern warfare, proposed directing military procurements more towards drones. He advocated for redirecting a portion of the funds allocated for the purchase of artillery ammunition to UAV programs.
However, Syrskyi did not agree with this approach. The Commander-in-Chief defended the importance of purchasing artillery shells in previous volumes, especially against the backdrop of ongoing battles on Ukraine's eastern front.
The New York Times writes that the contradictions that arose between the parties ultimately led to the weakening of Fedorov's position.
The publication emphasizes that discussions about the future role of unmanned technologies continue in the Ukrainian leadership, and this issue is considered one of the main directions of the country's military strategy.
