The operation carried out by the US against Iran, which involved hitting two state tankers and about 100 facilities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was the first application of President Donald Trump's new tactic.

Modern.az reports that the "Axios" portal published this information, citing sources.

According to the information, US troops hit approximately 100 targets during the last attack against Iran. Also, the engine compartments of two Iranian state tankers anchored off the country's coast, north of the US-declared naval blockade line, were damaged.

The portal writes that this is the first time US troops have struck Iranian tankers in response to Iran's attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, the purpose of such attacks was to prevent tankers from violating the US naval blockade.

A US official called these strikes part of Trump's new "tanker-on-tanker" policy aimed at deterring the IRGC.

According to "Axios" citing sources, the operation bought the US at least a month for the safe movement of commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Washington had previously announced that the strikes were carried out in response to the IRGC's attempt to attack commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, as well as US military bases in the region.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced on Tuesday that strikes had been carried out against Iran. Tehran, in response, struck a US base in Jordan. The IRGC released information about this.
