The number of American servicemen killed during the ongoing US military operations against Iran has increased.

Modern.az reports with reference to foreign media that the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has released information about this.

It was reported that another US serviceman died as a result of an explosion during the controlled neutralization of unexploded ordnance from an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle shot down in northern Iraq on July 18. Another serviceman was slightly injured during the incident and is receiving medical assistance.

This brings the number of officially confirmed US casualties in the war against Iran to 17.

Previously, CENTCOM announced that two servicemen were killed and one serviceman was missing as a result of a missile strike by Iran on a US military base in Jordan. Later, human remains found at the scene are believed to belong to the missing American serviceman.

The US army struck new military targets in Iran on July 18. Washington stated that the purpose of these operations was to avenge the servicemen killed in Jordan, as well as to weaken Iran's ability to threaten international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

In response, Iran launched missile strikes on two US military bases in Kuwait.

US President Donald Trump, in a statement to NewsNation TV channel, called the death of American servicemen a "sad event". He stated that the main goal of the US remains to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

At the same time, according to The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times, Washington is sending additional military forces to the Middle East. It is reported that F-16 and F-35 fighters, as well as air refueling aircraft, will be deployed to the region from bases in Germany and Great Britain.
