Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced the main tasks facing the current Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov.
Modern.az reports that he spoke about this at a joint press conference with Irish Prime Minister Micheál Martin in Kyiv.
“Rustem Umerov will have three main tasks: negotiations, coordination of activities to end the war, and the “drone deal” (an anti-ballistic program called “Freya”),” the president said.
According to Zelensky, if these projects are successfully implemented with the support of international partners, this could be a completely new stage for Ukraine's defense.
At the same time, he did not specify what position Rustem Umerov would be appointed to after leaving his current post.
It should be recalled that Rustem Umerov was appointed Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine on July 18, 2025. On July 17, 2026, Zelensky offered the position of council secretary to former Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. However, the president's decree on this has not yet been published.
